Special thanks to our Volunteer Master Gardener for designing, planting, and maintaining this beautiful and functional space!

KEOKA LAKE ICE OUT

2025  KEOKA ICE OUT ANNUAL FUND-RAISER

50/50 Raffle Tickets available from Feb. 1- March 1 at the Library

$1. each or 6 for $5. Guess the date the Ice goes out on Keoka Lake.

DATE IS DETERMINED WHEN ALL ICE IS COMPLETELY GONE FROM THE LAKE.

From 1938 -1950, Ed and Irene Bean kept Ice Out statistics while living in the Waterford Library apartment. Dates were inscribed inside the garage door. This tradition continued until their daughter, Joan Fillebrown took over the job in the early 1970's.

The torch was officially passed to Charlie Tarbell in 2019, after being trained by Joan for several years.

Information is sent to the Department of Biological Services at the State University of NY for an ongoing study of Ice-Outs.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jo Lynne Johnson for correct guess of April 16th 2025.

NEW HEAT PUMPS and AIR CONDITIONING INSTALLED

New Heat Pumps were installed in January 2023, made possible by an Association for Rural & Small Libraries Grant through a generous regional partner foundation. Additional funds from private donations. Total costs offset by EffiencyMaine rebates.

We are most grateful to everyone who contributed to this wonderful development.

The Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL) builds strong communities through professional development and elevating the impact of rural and small libraries. ARSL recognizes the uniqueness of small and rural libraries and is committed to providing an environment that encourages excellence within this community of practice, supporting their goals of service and speaking on behalf of this important constituency. Since 1 in 3 public libraries in the U.S. serve a population of fewer than 2,500 people, there is a great opportunity to support these library professionals that are often overlooked. We believe in the value of rural and small libraries and strive to create resources and services that address national, state, and local priorities for libraries situated in rural communities.
