You are invited!! Celebrate a Hometown Christmas
Hometown, It’s a Wonderful Life Christmas still exists in the hearts of so many of us!
If you yearn for just a glimpse into the joy of the season, please join us in our tiny village.
4PM In a throwback to the earliest days of encouraging children to gain confidence on stage, the event begins at the Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road. Local first grade children share what they love about the Christmas season in original, unedited recitation.
4:30PM All gathered then walk down to the Town Common for the ceremonial lighting of the tree and singing of traditional Christmas carols. Organist George Weiss, leads with a nod to past by bringing one of his foot pump organs. Inevitably, the two to five-year old children excitedly dance to the music. The tradition continues when we close with Silent Night.
5PM All in attendance are invited to walk back up the hill to the Wilkins Community House. Strains of a lilting harp played by Elizabeth Roth of Bear Mountain Music Hall welcome you for a heartwarming snack, a story for the children and a visit from Santa. Santa’s arrival is a magical moment following Al Struck’s reading of The Polar Express. Each child is also invited to choose new books to take home. What could be more magical than this return to “the good old days.”

Our StoryWalk made possible through a generous donation from the Shawn Pomerleau Youth Enrichment Fund.
The STORY WALK will be replanted come Spring.
New Heat Pumps were installed in January 2023, made possible by an Association for Rural & Small Libraries Grant through a generous regional partner foundation. Additional funds from private donations. Total costs offset by EffiencyMaine rebates.
We are most grateful to everyone who contributed to this wonderful development.
The Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL) builds strong communities through professional development and elevating the impact of rural and small libraries. ARSL recognizes the uniqueness of small and rural libraries and is committed to providing an environment that encourages excellence within this community of practice, supporting their goals of service and speaking on behalf of this important constituency. Since 1 in 3 public libraries in the U.S. serve a population of fewer than 2,500 people, there is a great opportunity to support these library professionals that are often overlooked. We believe in the value of rural and small libraries and strive to create resources and services that address national, state, and local priorities for libraries situated in rural communities.
Take some time to linger in our pollinating garden where different flowering plants are blooming all the time.
There are three stone benches, plus excellent Wi-Fi reception.
Fresh vegetables from our backyard Sharing Table Garden are usually available in the library throughout the summer.
Many thanks to the volunteers who help with all the weeding, watering, and other upkeeping needs throughout the seasons.
And, special thanks to our Volunteer Master Gardener for designing, planting, and maintaining this beautiful and functional space!
As summer ends it's especially nice to curl up with a book.
